Dr Adrian Anthony Husbands, CPsychol

Chartered Psychologist & Psychometrician · Talent Assessment · AI Evaluation

I design and validate the high-stakes assessments organisations use to select, license, and develop people — work I’ve done for HSBC, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and Elsevier over more than twenty years. I now apply the same measurement science to a newer problem: ensuring AI systems are evaluated as rigorously as the humans they’re being benchmarked against.

What I do

Psychometric assessment design and validation. I build the measurement frameworks behind high-stakes selection, licensing, and development decisions, designed to hold up under scientific and regulatory scrutiny.

AI evaluation and measurement frameworks. I apply established psychometric methodology to a problem AI companies are only beginning to recognise: how human judgment is calibrated, validated, and made defensible at scale.

DEI and organisational research. I design and evaluate diversity and inclusion interventions focused on measurable return on investment — covering expectation-setting, narrative design, psychological empowerment, and manager calibration rather than standard awareness training alone. This work is currently being presented at SIBR 2026.

Advisory and board-level consultancy. I sit on assessment and product advisory boards where psychometric expertise needs a seat at the table, not just a report after the fact.

Current focus

My current work centres on a problem I don’t think has been named properly yet: AI evaluation is a psychometric problem, not just a technical one. Training a model on inconsistent human judgment produces an inconsistent model.

I’m publishing on this, presenting it at international conferences in 2026, and advising organisations directly on how to apply measurement science to AI training and evaluation.

Background

I hold a PhD in Psychometrics and an MSc in Occupational Psychology, and I’m a Chartered Business Psychologist. Over more than two decades I’ve worked across banking, healthcare, government, and education, building a career that moves between academic rigour and commercial practice more than most in this field.
